GREECE AND THE GENDER EQUALITY

The elections in Greece, last month (January, 2005), seems to start a new era in Europe. At least, that was said by the most important newspapers in the old contienent.

Tsipras versus Merkel, the Greek huracaine of the politics revolution versus the Iron Woman, the highest mountain  of economy. Seemed as international information was going to live a new gold era, and here in Spain, corruptionship cases were going to lost magnitude against the boxing combat between the Troika and the Syriza´s most important economist, Varufakis. But everybody was wrong, Syriza punched itself: There aren´t woman in the Government.

The debate it´s obvious, positive marginalization or meritocaracy. Difficult issue, more even for that ones who thinks women  are not good working or even that the positive maginalization don´t help to change an unfair situation.

We can´t say that Greek ministers are not good in their jobs, or even they don´t deserve to be in the government. They are really preparated to try to save Geece, a country with fenix soul. Although, admit there aren´t any women among them, means acept women are not valorated in Socrates´ country.

According Greece Estatistics Institute, in the last cense, in 2011, helenic country has 10.816.286 residen people, 49,03% of them were men. So we can say that Greece population is equitative in sex distribution. So there must be an equal number of men and women interesting in politics and with high education level.

Framing Greek´s population, we must supose that Greeks are critic people and they´ll never allow to govern to a person without higher education. The last year with PASOK driving the contry, there were 115.200 people who has secundary studies, 59.028 of them were men. The percentage between men and women it´s not so equal as in general population statistics, but still being similar.

It can be said that in Greece, men and women have the same possibilities for estudy and obtain a secundary education title. The problem for women is in laboral market. According to the Gender Equality Index, Greece is one of the less equal contries for women in European Union, more even if we talk about power. That has not sense if we though there are a similar number of men and women with a high education level and in a theoretical similar situation.

Syriza made a bad decision without choosing any women for lead the State Deparments. Greece it´s not a equitative country for women and the new Government with its first decition hasn´t try to change the situation. Syriza have to work hard, and Greece doesn´t have problems only in economical issues.
